Wicani

East Yorkshire

We are passionate about the Rough and Smooth Collie, working from a lifetime of interest we breed for health, vitality and correct breed type. We were the first kennel to introduce proven CEA free dogs into the UK (dna tested) and we work diligently to maintain a diverse gene pool without compromising other qualities. For this reason we keep a large kennel of dogs, and have extended hands across the water, importing dogs from America and Canada in an effort to improve health and diversity. Striving to keep the breed alive for future generations to enjoy, our dogs have managed to win Champion show titles in 31 Countries, we bred the first and presently the only Rough Collie to reach grade seven in agility (top grade) and we have dogs in working homes where they are still used in their traditional role as sheepdogs. I am a Championship show judge, but the show world is not my main focus, my main focus is the health and continuation of the breeds I love. I have given breed related seminars in several Countries. We are presently studying ways to increase diversity in the immune system allele and are initiating a program to advance this interest, using the newly formulated dms scoring system. â€‹

Our Achievements
We were lucky enough to make up our first UK Champion in 2001 after a lengthy apprenticeship in the breed, and after winning CC and reserve CC with other dogs during previous years. This was our home-bred Champion Wicani Darling Buds of May 'Linnet' after a further long string of UK CC reserve CC and stud book number winners, we finally made up our second UK Champion in 2018 another blue bitch, this one named Churchoak Temptress at Wicani 'Jezebel' Overseas our dogs are widely appreciated, and we have been fortunate to have bred and been able to send dogs to an abundance of countries where they have gained many titles for their owners, some have become legends in their lifetime! However, I have gained the greatest pleasure from working diligently and succeeding in improving the genetic health of collies in a large number of kennels around the globe.

Dirk is a tricolour male born 17.10.2017.He has undergone the most extensive dna testing we have ever done, and I believe he is presently the only Rough Collie male in the UK with such a preponderance of healthy results. He is superbly constructed, carries a moderate coat which is straight, harsh and weatherproof. He has strong bones, joints, healthy skin and good dentition. You might have guessed by now that Dirk is special to us. His sire is International Multi Champion Group winning Wicani By Sword and Sorcery. His dam is a daughter of our top winner producing male Wicani Rumours.

Jezebel is a daughter of one our star brood bitches Polish Champion Wicani Lights of Amethyst (Iona) she is sired by one of our American import dogs Van-M Good Fellow at Wicani. We often refer to her as MM because she has a flirty 'Marilyn Monroe' exuberance that we love. She is now a veteran but looks like a junior and she can still climb a five foot fence! She is the mother of Wicani Simon Templer (cea non carrier), Champion Wicani Sharp Dressed Man (living in France) and Wicani The Seductress (winner of a stud book number for another kennel in the UK) Jezebel won the reserve CC at her very first show age 17 months, following up with the reserve CC at her second show. She went on to win 4 reserve CC and 3 CC all under breed specialist judges. She is the very first UK Champion bitch to be sired by an American male.

The name Letitia means 'joyful' and indeed she is! Hardly shown until 2019 when she came out of hiding age 6 years to win the Bitch CC and Best of Breed at Southern counties. She is the dam of Wicani Rumours. A younger son of hers is herding sheep every day! Letitia is another daughter of Van-M Good Fellow at Wicani, and her dam is our ever lovely Wicani Wears Red, who is also the winner of a CC.

Tiger is a force of nature and we adore him. He is a bright golden sable but he is carrying tricolour. Only shown once as he is not the easiest dog to show, his exuberance knows no boundaries, but he won his class and qualified for Crufts 2019, although we didn't take him. His sire is the tricolour Wicani Hookey Tom, who is winning CAC and CACIB for his new owner overseas. His mother Wicani Cinnabar is litter sister to Wicani Butterfly (presently the only Rough Collie to reach level 7 in agility)

Simon will shortly be leaving us on loan, he will be shown overseas where we hope he will also help to increase diversity in the gene pool, he is presently the only Rough Collie to dms test score with two small c making him extremely valuable if put to the right females! His sire is Dispiritos Shasta Madre (son of Int Ch Wicani Dragonsblood) and his dam is our lovely Jezebel.

Honey is a great character, brimming with health and vitality. She wears a moderate coat, and has a natural gift for sheepdog work. The first sheep she was introduced to were wild Ram lambs, not the easiest of creatures for a beginner to meet! They stamped their feet at her, they butted her, and she took it all in her stride, fearlessly gathering them, listening to commands and in fact, she blew us away! She has not been shown and never will be, she is a traditional classic style collie, built to work and with the character to match it.
