Inherited Conditions

Although a Collie should be a healthy dog that can live for well beyond 10 happy years, there are, as with all breeds, some health conditions that occur relatively frequently. Luckily for the Collie, many of these conditions, and almost all of the extremely frequent ones, can be tested for by a laboratory. You will find these health concerns below.

Many Collie inherited diseases follow an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. The inheritance chart for this is shown below.
